Neighbourhood Policing Update |

|
This weekend your B RELIEF Neighbourhood Officers have been busy conducting targeted proactive patrols across the city and throughout the Night-Time Economy.
PC BUTLER, despite only working on the City Centre Neighbourhood Team for 4 months now, has developed a strong knowledge base of our persistent and recurring offenders. Using this knowledge, she has been able to identify 2 suspects in a brazen and high-value theft from a popular fragrance store. On Saturday afternoon, PC BUTLER whilst on patrol located and arrested one of the suspects. The following day, officers from A relief located and arrested the outstanding offender. PC BUTLER has been able to secure 2 charges for shoplifting as a result of this.
PC BARNWELL and PC KEANE, whilst operating as a part of Operation Sycamore, targeting serious violence and knife crime, conducted a vehicle stop on Tib Street for suspected driving offences. However upon approaching the driver-side window, the driver was holding a sock containing 18 snap bags of suspected cocaine and ketamine. PC BARNWELL conducted a stop search of the suspect and the vehicle and located a substantial amount of cash and 2 'burner' phones. The driver was arrested and is currently under investigation for suspected drug supply offences within the Northern Quarter and associated areas.
During the Night Time Economy this weekend, PC SUTCLIFFE, working with PC INTWALA of the Violence Reduction and Exploitation Team, were kept busy conducting targeted patrols around the Piccadilly Gardens area.
Having been in Piccadilly Gardens for only a short while PC SUTCLIFFE AND PC INTWALA identified a male acting suspiciously by dancing overly close and loitering nearby to lone women during a street performance. A stop search of the male located 3 suspected stolen mobile phones and cannabis. The male was arrested and has since been charged with Handling Stolen Goods. One of the mobile phones is already in the process of being returned to its lawful owner.
No sooner had they finished dealing with arrested male, PC SUTCLIFFE spotted a missing person from a nearby hospital. Using an existing rapport with the vulnerable person, PC SUTCLIFFE managed to keep them calm and conduct a safe and well check whilst coordinating officers from a neighbouring district to come and transport him safely back to his ward.
The next evening, both officers then identified a high-risk offender who, despite having only left prison 2 days prior had already been recalled and promptly arrested him. Whilst awaiting a van to transport said male to custody, PC SUTCLIFFE spotted a suspicious male approaching multiple lone females and intervened. PC SUTCLIFFE spoke to the females and they declined any support or to make a formal report, but noted he had been behaving "weird" towards them and had propositioned them. Whilst the male's conduct could not be deemed to be criminal at this stage, he was later detained and searched as PC SUTCLIFFE suspected he had been providing false details to evade detection. PC SUTCLIFFE, after a thorough investigation uncovered the males true identity, he was issued with a civil order prohibiting him from approaching or loitering by lone or groups of females that he does not know and excludes him from the Northern Quarter, Chinatown, Gay Village and Piccadilly Gardens areas. In time, should the male breach his exclusions, he may become eligible for arrest.
Whilst attempting to take a well-earned lunch break, PC SUTCLIFFE and PC INTWALA were diverted to a report of males threatening to stab people on a coach on Chorlton Street. PC INTWALA, a specially trained officer with a TASER, took charge and assisted by PC SUTCLIFFE detained 2 males for a stop search. Whilst no knives were found, the victim and witnesses confirmed they were the offenders. They were subsequently arrested and have since been charged with public order offences.
Finally, to round off their evening, whilst awaiting for a key holder to attend a jewellery store following a false alarm overnight, PC SUTCLIFFE spotted a young male cycling around in a loop over a period of 10-15 minutes whilst concealing his identity at nearly 0400hrs. Despite being on a bicycle and attempting to avoid police, officers were able to detain him for a search. Despite initially providing false details, it was eventually uncovered that the chap was in fact a high-risk missing person from Middlesborough. PC INTWALA then worked with partner agencies and teams to organise the successful and safe return of the young male back to his home address with a Care Plan in place to try and tackle the root issues leading to this incident.
